Engineering - Rubber bearings
Function-separated bearing
Two bearings perform different functions
Function-separated bearings use a simplified design whereby horizontal load is supported by the rubber bearing and vertical load is supported by the steel bearing.
Adjustable horizontal rigidity
The horizontal rigidity of the rubber bearing, which supports horizontal load, can be adjusted as required to minimize displacement of the bridge in an earthquake.
Displacement can be further inhibited by employing rubber bearings, which have inherent attenuation properties, and incorporating sliding attenuation performance into the bridge design.
Easy to replace
Since the horizontal and vertical bearings perform separate functions, in the event of a fault or failure it is only necessary to replace the failed bearing. This generates savings in terms of recycling costs.
